Specialist / Radio systems

Radio systems that reach.

Hills, valleys, steel sheds and long distances all get in the way of a signal. With a Royal Signals background, I design, install and fix radio communications that work where you need them — from a handful of handsets to linked, multi-site networks.

01 / What’s covered

From handset
to horizon.

Reliable radio is a system: the right equipment, the right frequencies, and antennas in the right places.

RF-02.1

Two-way radio

The right handsets and mobiles for your team, programmed and ready — whether that’s simple licence-free radios or a licensed business system.

  • Licence-free PMR446
  • Licensed business radio
  • DMR digital & analogue
RF-02.2

Coverage & site surveys

Understand where your signal reaches and where it doesn’t — and what it would take to fill the gaps.

  • On-site coverage testing
  • Antenna selection & placement
  • Realistic range expectations
RF-02.3

Repeaters & base stations

Extend range across a large site or difficult terrain with well-placed repeaters, base stations and vehicle radios.

  • Repeater design & installation
  • Base station & dispatch setup
  • Vehicle-mounted radios
RF-02.4

Multi-site & IP-linked

Connect radio systems across separate sites, or bridge radio into your network so teams can talk wherever they are.

  • Linked repeaters
  • Radio-over-IP gateways
  • Talk groups & channel planning
RF-02.5

Point-to-point wireless

Link buildings, yards and outbuildings without digging trenches — sharing a network or broadband connection across the site.

  • Building-to-building links
  • Point-to-multipoint networks
  • Alignment & link testing
RF-02.6

Fault finding & repair

Poor range, crackly audio, interference or a system nobody understands any more? Find the real cause and fix it properly.

  • Antenna & feeder checks
  • Interference investigation
  • Reprogramming & documentation

02 / Simple to complex

Right-sized
for the job.

Sometimes a few good handsets are all you need. Sometimes it’s a network. Either way, you’ll get honest advice on which.

LEVEL 01

Essentials

Get a small team talking clearly.

  • Choosing the right handsets
  • Licence-free or licensed — which you need
  • Programming & setup
  • Fixing poor range & battery issues
LEVEL 02

Site systems

Reliable coverage across a whole site.

  • Coverage survey
  • Licensed business radio
  • Base stations & vehicle radios
  • DMR digital systems
  • External antennas & masts
LEVEL 03

Networks

Wide-area, multi-site and integrated systems.

  • Repeaters & linked sites
  • Radio-over-IP integration
  • Point-to-point wireless backbones
  • Resilient & backup communications
  • Full documentation & channel plans

03 / Who it’s for

Built for
real places.

Rural sites and spread-out operations are where radio earns its keep — and where getting it right takes local knowledge and a methodical approach.

  • Farms & estates
  • Events & venues
  • Construction & industrial sites
  • Outdoor & activity centres
  • Security & stewarding teams
  • Hospitality & leisure
  • Community & voluntary groups

04 / How a project runs

Survey. Design.
Build. Hand over.

Radio work depends on the ground it sits on. Every larger job starts on site, not on a spreadsheet.

  1. STEP 01

    Survey

Walk the site, test real-world coverage and understand how your team works.

  2. STEP 02

    Design

Equipment, antenna positions, licensing and channel plan — with clear costs.

  3. STEP 03

    Install

Installed, programmed and tested in the places your team actually works.

  4. STEP 04

    Hand over

Documentation, user guidance and ongoing support when you need it.

Radio questions

Straight
answers.

Do I need a licence?

It depends. PMR446 radios are licence-free but limited in power and range. Most business radio systems need a licence from Ofcom. I’ll help you work out which suits your needs and talk you through the options.

Can you improve coverage in hilly or remote areas?

Often, yes. Antenna height and position, the right equipment and well-placed repeaters can make a big difference. A survey gives an honest picture of what’s achievable before you spend money.

Can you work with the radios we already have?

In many cases. Existing equipment can often be reprogrammed, repaired or integrated into a better system. Where it’s past its best, I’ll tell you.

Can you link two buildings without running cable?

Usually. With a clear line of sight, a point-to-point wireless link can carry a fast, reliable network connection between buildings — often far more cheaply than trenching.
